September 1: Evan Reflects On His Experiences Since graduating from the McDonogh School two years ago, Evan Taubenfeld has become lead guitarist and musical director for teen pop singer Avril Lavigne. Taubenfeld had been accepted at Berklee School of Music in Boston. But after getting two one-year deferments from the school, he has decided to forgo college - at least for now. "Touring with the band has been my college experience," said Taubenfeld, 20, of Pikesville. The closest Taubenfeld got to college this summer was when he traveled to Boston to deliver his brother, Drew, to Berklee for his freshman year. Evan Taubenfeld called his brother "an awesome guitar player." Since joining Lavigne's band, Taubenfeld said his life has been "like winning the lottery." He's been on a world tour, performed at Madison Square Garden for the Grammy Awards show, played with other bands to honor the heavy metal group Metallica and appeared on Saturday Night Live. He is writing songs for Lavigne's next album while the band is on a break. "It's been a crazy ride this past year," said Taubenfeld. He doesn't rule out college because he wants to get into the business side of the music industry. "I want to run a music empire one day," he said. [From SunSpot.net]
